During the first year of the programme, Vivian Malema (from SANBI), consulted with and drafted a proposal to the Department of Basic Education on behalf of the Fundisa for Change partners. This resulted in the development of a business plan for strengthening and extending the programme’s key objectives, with a focus on:
- Materials development
- Training of trainers workshops
- Supporting the development of a coordination hub for the programme
- Extending the subject focus and grade range for implementation
- Further development of the partner network
Although the exact extent of this new partnership is yet to be negotiated, the Department’s approval of the business plan indicates a strong interest in the programme, and promises to help the programme develop in a manner that dove-tails with the Department’s professional development strategy.
