Fundisa For Change Programme Evaluation

This is an executive summary of the Fundisa for Change Programme evaluation covering the 2012-early 2020 period. The summary introduces the programme before highlighting the findings in terms of: key messages, evaluation approach and process, main outcomes, lessons learnt and making recommendations for producing systemic impact. It draws on the main report and the associated PowerPoint presentation that we prepared for wider use. 

Fundisa for Change (FFC) Programme – Teaching for Change, Programme – is a multi-stakeholder, intersectoral, long-term partnership programme that was initiated in 2012 to strengthen teacher education in education for sustainable development in South Africa. Currently, 25 organisations from government, NGOs, parastatals and universities constitute the partnership. FFC seeks to contribute to “strengthening the schooling system in ways that ensure capable teachers, a coherent curriculum, high-quality learning materials to resource the foundations of further learning and participation in the environment, global change and biodiversity human capacity development pipeline” and for the green economy. 

Evaluation objectives 

The objectives of the evaluation were to establish: (i) relevant contextual changes and trends in the education, environmental and ESD space (ii) Programme achievements, (iii) lessons learnt and insights generated. In addition, and equally important, the evaluation sought to recommend: (i) suitable organizational structures and partnership arrangements (models) and processes that are most suitable for social innovation, (ii) appropriate models for upscaling the programme and strategies and activities.
